Merlin - The End

Just watched The Diamond Of the Day - Part 2 for the second time and felt I should say something about it.

Firstly, I love the fact that Merthur is now cannon. The love between those boys was powerful and so very, very painful. They were perfect and beautiful together and that episode just cemented that belief. When I watched the first time I think it was just too much to take in - they layed their love out in the open for all to see. Also I was left scratching my head at Arthur's hand catching the sword in the lake when his body is still lying behind Merlin and the whole reincarnation thing (I have to admit to having no knowledge of Arthurian legend other than what Monty Python taught me!)

Knowing that Arthur will return definitely helps, at least poor Merlin has some hope. At least he will see his love again. Colin Morgan broke my heart seven ways from Sunday. His anguished, grief filled scream for the Dragon will live with me for ever - absolutely heartbreaking stuff. I think I believed right up till the end that Arthur was going to make it, I was sure they were setting up for a happily ever after (will I ever learn?).

Well at least we got some closure - they loved each other in a way most of us can only hope for and they were beautiful together. Somewhere out there Merlin is waiting for his King and I hope he will be back soon....or maybe, just maybe, Merlin (Colin) found his Arthur (Bradley) quite recently :)

So there you have it, my thoughts on the end. i think my main regret with this show is that i found it, and it's fandom so very late. If it hadn't been for Eve Frickin Miles popping up in the first season I would have been in at the ground floor :(

Someone else said that about Arthur's hand...how do we know it's his hand? I didn't even notice! Was his ring on it or something?

I agree that Merlin's call for the dragon was heart-wrenching!

This is the very last scene I wanted to see: Just after the truck whizzes by, cut to modern Merlin walking into a modern place and bumping into some one. He lifts his eyes, saying, "Excuse me," and the guy turns at the same time---yep, it's modern Arthur! And Merlin smiles his beautiful smile, and that's the end!
(And we would take it so shippy, but people wouldn't have to, and we'd all be happy instead of crying, and they could still make a movie out of it someday or whatever if they wanted to because there are no details. *wails* Why don't the writers ask me for my opinion?!)

Oh yes the last scene needed a glimpse of Arthur just to give us real hope! The hand thing....I really thought at the time that it was his hand/arm just because it looked like it was, and it certainly wasn't a womans arm but I have since heard that it was meant to be Freya but they used a male stunt guy for it - fail!

Just to clarify for you. The hand that caught the sword was the Lady of the Lake, aka Freya, Merlin's former girlfriend who was originally cursed to be a cat-creature and was killed by Arthur in an earlier season.

I realise now that the arm was meant to be Freya's but.....if that is a girls arm/hand then she needs to lay off the work outs! Poorly done I would say :(
